  • Berbatov is convinced Spurs star Kane unsettled by Man Utd

Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov is convinced Harry Kane is open to moving to Manchester United.

Berbatov thinks Kane is considering a move to Manchester United due to a lack of trophies at Tottenham.

“The final step for me was joining Manchester United and I knew I would be making people disappointed – especially Tottenham fans – but I was following my own path,” Berbatov said on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast.

“I knew if I missed that chance another one might not come. This is how it is in football. Sometimes you need to make tough decisions.

“The same situation is happening with Harry Kane at the moment, the exact same. He’s in the same situation as I was in as he has started asking questions and maybe his head is not in the right place.

“My head was not in the right place. It was the same with [Christian] Eriksen.

“He wasn’t really there in the last couple of games. I watched the games and I saw that his head was not there.

“Kane is in the same situation. If there is any truth in the rumours, it’s in his head, 100 per cent. The lack of trophies is the main problem for players like Kane.

“He’s not getting any younger. He wants to look back and know he won trophies.

“When I see Spurs play United now, even if on paper Spurs have better players, they still go there with fear.”

  • Newcastle in contact with Panathinaikos chief Dabizas

Newcastle United are in contact with former defender Nikos Dabizas.

The Evening Chronicle says contact has been made with Dabizas about a possible Director of Football or executive role in a new St James’ Park regime, according to sources close to the former Newcastle player.

Dabizas is Panathinaikos’s Director of Football but would be delighted to return “home” and would welcome any talks.

He retains representation in Newcastle through St James’ Square Sports Management and has previously talked to clubs in the Championship and SPL about opportunities.

  • Norwich goalkeeper Krul impressed by Dubravka at Newcastle

Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul is full of praise for Newcastle United No1 Martin Dubravka.

Krul spent 12 years on Tyneside before joining Brighton in 2017.

Krul admits he has been impressed with Slovakia international Dubravka since he joined Newcastle in January 2018.

He told Match of the Day magazine: “Dubravka has done an amazing job at the moment so it was nice to have a great game against each other.

“He was showing his quality and it was nice to keep a clean sheet for me as well.”
